LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE

Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle massage designed to relieve inflammation related to lymphedema. Lymphedema is a common side effect of various health conditions, especially among individuals recovering from cancer treatments, such as breast cancer surgery, where several lymph nodes may be removed.

The lymphatic system typically collects lymph and returns it to the heart through a network of vessels and nodes. When this process is disrupted, lymph can accumulate in the arms, legs, ankles, or other body areas, leading to swelling.

During a lymphatic drainage massage, a therapist employs specific techniques to encourage the movement of lymph from your tissues to the lymph nodes, effectively reducing swelling.

Lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is a specialized type of massage that can also benefit cancer patients. It aims to improve the flow of lymph fluid, which is essential for removing toxins and waste products from the body.

Benefits of LDM for Cancer Patients:
  • Reduces discomfort:
Swelling caused by lymphedema can be uncomfortable and restrict movement. LDM can help alleviate these symptoms.
  • Supports the immune system:
The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in the immune system. LDM may help improve lymphatic function and support the body's defense mechanisms.
  • Reduces swelling (lymphedema):
Cancer treatments, such as surgery and radiation therapy, can damage the lymphatic system, leading to fluid buildup and swelling. LDM can help move lymph fluid away from affected areas and reduce swelling.
  • Improves circulation:
LDM stimulates the lymphatic vessels, promoting better circulation and drainage.
